Efforts of the Folk Research Centre to preserve items of cultural significance have been bolstered through the support of local artistes.

Recently the Msgr. Patrick Anthony Folk Research Centre at Barnard Hill, received several valuable gifts from leading artists as a meant of adding to the collection of items being replaced following the devastating 2018 fire which completely destroyed the centre and its contents.

leader and violinist of the Manmay Lakay folk group Mr. Augustin ‘Charlie’ Julien presented his first violin and a hand-made banjo to the FRC collection while the image of cultural icon Dame Sesenne Descartes was provided by  Mr. Cedric George  along with two of his paintings.

Family of the recently deceased Ron Savory,  a leading Guyanese artist resident in Saint Lucia from 1979, also presented a painting by the artist, which captured the scenic view of the Dennery village.

These art works will be displayed prominently at the present offices of the FRC.

Other donations and gifts to the FRC include library collections and boxes of books. The FRC is desirous of receiving copies of its own publications as well as material on Saint Lucian and Caribbean culture, history and literature. These can be delivered to the FRC offices.

Those desirous of making donations can call 4531477 to make arrangements for pick-up or delivery of gifts of books, audio visual materials, artefacts.

At a recent annual general meeting, a new Board was elected with Mr. Embert Charles as the new Chairman.
