Castries Gros-Islet Highway will be renamed

In recognition of the significant contributions made to the development of Saint Lucia by Sir Julian R. Hunte and Mrs. Lelia Harracksingh, the Cabinet of Ministers is pleased to announce following:

 

The Castries Gros-Islet Highway will be renamed The Sir Julian R. Hunte Highway and the Desruisseaux Wellness Centre will be renamed The Lelia Harracksingh Wellness Centre.

 

Sir Julian R. Hunte is a former Cabinet Minister and served as the President of the United Nations General Assembly from 2003 to 2004 during its 58th regular session. Sir Julian served as a Member of Parliament from 1987 to1996 having represented the constituency of Gros Islet He co-founded the Saint Lucia National trust and has been a sports enthusiast, serving as a National Cricketer and a Cricket administrator. In 2014 Sir Julian was Knighted by Queen Elizabeth the second.

 

Mrs. Lelia Harracksingh is a valuable member of the Community who is highly regarded as a leader, educator and political figure. She has been a family Nurse Practitioner who has always put people at the forefront. She has served as President of the Saint Lucia Nurses Association and as a Senator in the Parliament of Saint Lucia. Mrs. Harracksingh has been an advocate for youth and a Community leader. She received the Saint Lucia Les Piton Bronze Medal in 2009.
