{"id":9667,"date":"2022-02-04T19:29:30","date_gmt":"2022-02-04T23:29:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rcistlucia.com\/staging\/5763\/?p=9667"},"modified":"2022-02-04T19:29:30","modified_gmt":"2022-02-04T23:29:30","slug":"anglican-church-to-commemorate-st-lucias-43rd-independence-celebrations-with-a-banana-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rcistlucia.com\/staging\/5763\/anglican-church-to-commemorate-st-lucias-43rd-independence-celebrations-with-a-banana-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"Anglican Church to commemorate St Lucia\u2019s 43rd independence celebrations with a Banana Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>CASTRIES, St Lucia \u2013\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>The Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Castries, and its parishioners of Saint Mary the Virgin \u2013 La-Caye, Dennery, will commemorate the 43rd Independence Anniversary of Saint Lucia with a planned\u00a0<strong>Banana Festival from February 20 \u2013 22, 2022.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The venue is the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.caribbeannewsglobal.com\/caribbean-ties-exhibition-a-connected-people-then-and-now-review\/\"><strong>Anglican School Annex<\/strong><\/a>, recently renovated historic building which we have learned housed several national prominent Saint Lucia personalities as alumni of that school inclusive of Sir Arthur Lewis and family members and several prominent citizens over the generations. As well as the first native Governor \u2013 Sir Frederick Clarke and the First Governor-General, Sir Allen Montgomery Lewis, other passed and living persons as pupils of that primary school.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/orlandosstlucia\/?hl=en\"><strong>Banana Festival<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0will feature several bi-products that can be derived from the Banana fruit. Further, patrons can expect live feature\u00a0<em>cooking demonstrations<\/em>, with world-renowned\u00a0<strong>Chef Orlando Satchell<\/strong>. The exhibition will also feature documentaries presented via video.<\/p>\n<p>Some local cottage type industries engaged in the production of banana chips \u2026 banana wine \u2026 and other products will be featured.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.baronfoodsltd.com\/product_gallery\/\"><strong>Baron Foods<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vikingstlucia.com\/shop\/productCategories\/view\/3\"><strong>Viking Traders<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0will highlight their\u00a0<strong>Banana Ketchup<\/strong>. While\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stluciadistillers.com\/our-rums\"><strong>St Lucia Distillers<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0will feature the\u00a0<strong>Banana liqueur<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Some local artisans will demonstrate how Banana paper is generated and used for greetings cards. Additional use of Banana paper will be demonstrated by artisans including Lucian Xpressions. Research indicates that there are more than 28 uses of bananas from its leaf to the stem.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Archdeacon Christian Glasgow and his management team comprising David Jordan and Cecil Charles\u00a0<\/strong>recognize that \u201c<em>amid the recent negative publicity on social media and the national press, in recent time, it is an opportunity to feature firstly the nutritional value of the fruit as well as its historic significance; and the economic contribution of the industry to Saint Lucia over the past decades. This is information of necessity, that needs to be shared with the youth and Saint Lucia\u2019s emerging economy.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>Banana Festival<\/strong>\u00a0has the support of the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Rural Development, Alfred P. Prospere; Minister for Commerce, Manufacturing, Business Development, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs, Emma Hippolyte; and the National Nutritionist of the Ministry of Health.<\/p>\n<p>The management team emphasizes that: \u201c<em>There is also a need to ensure the existence of the fruit resonates with each national household and visitors alike. The Banana is truly an integral part of our national cuisine<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Chef Orlando Satchell<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 a world-renowned chef has partnered with the management team. He will feature live cooking demonstrations.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>Banana Festival<\/strong>\u00a0will be streamed live commencing on\u00a0<strong>Sunday, February 20 with a Church service from 8.30 am at the Holy Trinity Church in Castries and will climax on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, Independence Day.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Banana Festival\u00a0<\/strong>is open to patrons island-wide from 9.00 am till 5.00 pm, each day at the Anglican School Annex, Holy Trinity Church Road and the adjacent car park.
