{"id":3758,"date":"2019-03-29T07:39:10","date_gmt":"2019-03-29T11:39:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kut.ofp.mybluehost.me\/?p=3758"},"modified":"2019-03-29T07:45:39","modified_gmt":"2019-03-29T11:45:39","slug":"eu-blacklist-revised","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rcistlucia.com\/staging\/5763\/eu-blacklist-revised\/","title":{"rendered":"EU Blacklist Revised"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CARICOM statement on revised EU Blacklist of members of the Community<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>On Tuesday, 12 March 2019, the European\nUnion issued a revised list of countries purportedly not adhering to tax good\ngovernance which included five (5) Members of the Caribbean Community,\nBarbados, Belize Dominica, Trinidad and Tobago and Bermuda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Seven (7) other Members of the Community\nhave been placed on a monitoring list having made commitments to undertake\nreforms by December 2019 and are making efforts in that regard.&nbsp; These are Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas,\nSt Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Anguilla, British Virgin Islands and Cayman\nIslands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The narrative provided by the EU Council\nto support the inclusion of the blacklisted States is grossly misleading and\nmisrepresents the response, in good faith, of our Members since the initial\nlisting in December 2017. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This renewed attack on our Member\nStates\u2019 economic prospects constitutes an infringement of our sovereign right\nof self-determination in the best interests of the CARICOM people.&nbsp; Moreover, we are concerned that the EU\u2019s \u2018tax\ngood governance strategy\u2019 is beginning to border on anti-competitive behavior\ntargeted at the decimation of the international business\/financial services\nsector in the Caribbean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;MPs\nwill vote again on Brexit on Friday but it is not clear whether it will be\nanother &#8220;meaningful vote&#8221; on the PM&#8217;s withdrawal deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Asked whether the motion would be the\n&#8220;full package&#8221;, Commons Leader Andrea Leadsom said discussion was\n&#8220;ongoing&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is speculation that MPs might be\nasked to vote on the withdrawal agreement but not the further &#8220;political\ndeclaration&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Labour said that would lead to the\n&#8220;blindest of blind Brexits&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shadow Brexit Secretary Sir Keir Starmer\nsaid both European Council President Donald Tusk and European Commission\nPresident Jean-Claude Juncker had stressed that the withdrawal agreement and\npolitical declaration &#8211; outlining how UK-EU trade, security and other issues\ncould work &#8211; were part of the same &#8220;negotiated package&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said to separate them &#8220;would\nmean leaving the EU with absolutely no idea where we are heading &#8230; we\nwouldn&#8217;t vote for that&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The PM&#8217;s deal includes a withdrawal agreement &#8211; setting out how much money the UK must pay to the <a href=\"http:\/\/kut.ofp.mybluehost.me\/johanan-dujon-commonwealth-young-person-of-the-year\/\">EU<\/a> as a settlement, details of the transition period, and the backstop arrangements &#8211; and a political declaration on the way the future EU-UK relationship will work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previous &#8220;meaningful votes&#8221; on\nthe deal involved both the withdrawal agreement and the political declaration\nbut Speaker John Bercow has said he would not allow a third &#8220;meaningful\nvote&#8221; on &#8220;substantially the same&#8221; motion as MPs had already\nrejected by historic margins twice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The EU has said the PM&#8217;s deal must be\napproved by MPs by the end of this week, if Brexit is to be delayed until 22\nMay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>European Council conclusions say U.K.\nonly has to pass Withdrawal Agreement by 29\/3 to get extension to 22\/5. No\nmention of Political Declaration. Hidden in plain sight yet again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Announcing the government&#8217;s intention to\ntable a motion for debate on Friday, Commons Leader Andrea Leadsom said there\nwould be a motion put forward later &#8220;relating to the UK&#8217;s withdrawal from\nthe EU.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The motion tabled will comply with\nthe Speaker&#8217;s ruling but the only way we ensure we leave in good time on May 22\nis by approving the Withdrawal Agreement by 11pm on March 29, which is\ntomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The European Council has agreed to\nan extension until May 22 provided the Withdrawal Agreement is approved by the\nHouse of Commons this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s crucial we make every effort\nto give effect to that and to allow the House to debate this important\nissue.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CARICOM statement on revised EU Blacklist of members of the Community On Tuesday, 12 March 2019, the European Union issued a revised list of countries purportedly not adhering to tax good governance which included five (5) Members of the Caribbean Community, Barbados, Belize Dominica, Trinidad and Tobago and Bermuda.
