Local Credit Union Reports Increase in New Members as Banks Impose Fees to Customers

A local Credit union has noted an increase in new members as a result of account charges imposed on bank customers.

The revelation was made during an interview with the director of the St.Lucia Civil Service Co-operative Credit Union Mr.Zepherin Francis on Tuesday morning. RBC Royal Bank announced in June that there would be a monthly $25 fee on consumer accounts. Since then many St.Lucians have expressed their outrage and have subsequently closed their accounts.  The National Consumers Association previously urged patrons to use credit unions instead of banks.

Fuel Prices to be Reduced on Island
The Government of Saint Lucia has announced the fuel price adjustments, to be made effective during the three (3) week period August 22nd – September 11th , 2016. These changes reflect developments in international oil prices over the past three weeks, July 25th to August 14th , 2016.

The wholesale price of bulk LPG (greater than 100 pounds) is $1.68 per pound or $3.71 per kilogram. Fuel price calculations for the period are based on recent movements in the importers’ CIF prices, which showed decreases for gasoline by $0.09 per gallon and diesel by $0.05 per gallon.

National Creole Youth Rally Set for October
A National Youth Rally to be conducted entirely in Creole is the newest initiative being undertaken by the National reparations Committee.

The disclosure was made by NRC Chairman Earl Bousquet who explained that the activity is taking place to draw attention to the reparations cause.

Police have launched an investigation into a shooting which occurred on Saturday, August 20, 2016 about 9:00 p.m. at Rockhall, Castries.

According to reports, 30 year old, Mark Grant of Bocage, Castries sustained a single gunshot wound to the body perpetrated by an unknown individual.
