Three men have been apprehended by police when they were caught in the ceiling of the First District Court administrative building today in a foiled robbery attempt.

According to the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Justice Department Sonia Monrose, she was informed of the break in early Tuesday morning.

Trinidad's Government Commended for Raising Legal Age of Marriage

The Government of Trinidad has received the applause of regional analyst Peter Wickham following a unanimous decision in that country’s parliament that has outlawed child marriage.

Wickham is pleased with what he calls a bold step that puts an end to a sinister and nasty practice of marrying off young girls at the age of 12.

Saint Lucia's Department of Statistics Records Decrease in Unemployment Rate

The Government of Saint Lucia says it is encouraged by the latest figures released by the Department of Statistics which show a decrease in the unemployment rate for the first quarter of 2017 and has renewed its commitment to help create an environment to continue this trend.

According to the figures, when compared to the same quarter (January to March) in 2016 the unemployment rate has decreased from 22.1 percent to 20.1 percent. The report shows that Saint Lucia has seen increased activity in the areas of tourism, accommodation and food service activities as well as increased employment in construction, financial services, education and manufacturing.

Police News

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 27 year old Corinth resident. According to the Police Press Relations Officer Gregory Alexander, the death of Shem Cherry also known as snake oil is being treated as a homicide.

Meanwhile police investigations have also opened into the circumstances surrounding a fatal accident which occurred on Wednesday June 7th along the Castries/Gros Islet highway.

Local Organisation Comment on Recent Reports of Abuse Against Women

Female parliamentarians are under fire from a local lobbyist group for their failure to speak forcefully against the abuses that St Lucian women are subjected to.

Raise Your Voice Secretary Catherine Sealys has made the observation in the wake of several pornographic videos where women are exposed for the purpose of what she believes is embarrassment and ridicule.
