PAHO Reports of an Outbreak of Conjunctivitis in Five Member States

The Pan America Health Organization (PAHO) has reported an outbreak of conjunctivitis in five of its member states and is urging countries including St Lucia to increase surveillance to prevent the spread of the disease.

Conjunctivitis is more commonly referred to as “red eye” in St Lucia. According to PAHO outbreaks have been reported in the Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Brazil, Guadeloupe, and Martinique.

St. Lucia Observes World Public Service Day

Public servants in St Lucia will on Friday join their counterparts around the globe in the observance of World Public Service Day.

This day was designated to recognize three important roles of the Public Service, including celebrating the value and virtue of public service to the community; highlighting the contribution of public service in the development process and recognize the work of public servants; and encouraging young people to pursue careers in the public sector.

CEO of St. Lucia's CIP Unit Sent on Administrative Leave

The CEO at the CIP Unit has been sent on administrative leave.

Reliable sources had informed on Wednesday that Mrs Cindy McLean had been fired from the position. She was ordered on leave yesterday afternoon, however the duration of the administrative leave has not been disclosed.

Organizers of the Soufriere Carnival Receive Support from Business Sector

Organizers of the Soufriere Carnival are getting support for reveller participation from the business sector in staging the community leg of the festival.

It comes in the form of a recommendation by the St Lucia Chamber of Commerce, encouraging the corporate community to allow time off from work for individuals who have signed up with bands in the Soufriere carnival.

Recipients of the Young Leaders Queens Award Travel to England

The father on one of the recipients of the Young Leaders Queens Award is beaming with pride after his son left the island for England on the Weekend.

Darnley Le Bourne who is the father of 18 year old Ajani Lebourne boasts that his son has been blazing his own trail and is a shining example of a model citizen to his counterparts.
