Augier Combined School Wins Annual RCI/Pinehill School Party Competition

The Annual School Party competition organized by Radio Caribbean International and the Pine Hill Brand at Peter and Company Ltd moves to the south of the island this year.

The contest which saw over 50 essay entries from primary school students around the island yielded three top submissions.

Rocque Charles of the Augier Combined School is this year’s first place winner.

National Youth Council Speaks on Passing of Nelson Mandela

A youth perspective on one of the world’s most celebrated leaders has come from the National Youth Council following news of the death of Nelson Mandela, who passed away last week.

NYC president Timothy Ferdinand says young people who are striving for leadership are motivated by Nelson Mandela and the principles which he stood for.

He notes that the World leader has had a positive impact on the lives of many young people in St Lucia and the region even though they may not have extensive knowledge about Mandela’s life.

Minister for Infrastructure Seeks Plan to Mitigate the Number of Road Accidents on Island

The island’s Minister for Infrastructure has urged for a comprehensive plan of action that will seek to mitigate the number of road accidents occurring here.

Mr Philip J Pierre made the call on Thursday during a meeting with stakeholders and media personnel that sought to address growing concerns about the number of road fatalities recorded in St Lucia so far for this year.

St. Lucia Mourns Passing of Nelson Mandela

As the global community continues to mourn the passing of one of the most iconic world leaders, local politicians are reaction to the legacy left behind by Nelson Mandela.

Among them is the Leader of the Lucian Peoples Movement Therold Prudent who notes that Nelson Mandela has been a towering source of inspiration for many around the world.  He says, in life, Mandela was gracious and forgiving and he understood well, that the art of nation building could never be attainable in South Africa, if the policy of his ANC government was to exclude input from persons of differing political persuasion.
