St Lucia stands to benefit from the assistance rendered by an international organization for individuals who are hearing impaired.
It comes from the Starkey Hearing Foundation whose representatives have made their first stop in St Lucia, as part of a Caribbean tour this month.
The foundation was formed by William Austin in 1984 with the objective of providing the gift of hearing to those most in need.
According to Medical Officer in the Ministry of Health Dr Sharon Belmar George the organization will make a donation of hearing aids during a screening activity.
Meanwhile, Kirk Richards, Starkey’s International Development Director for the Caribbean Region said, the Starkey Hearing Foundation has provided hearing opportunities in Latin America, Asia and Africa, however they have moved their services to the Caribbean, starting in St Lucia.
The Director also noted that issues associated with hearing may range from ageing to simply listening to loud music. Richards also stressed that hearing loss cannot be corrected.
