Activities for the 2017 National Arts Festival, coordinated by the CDF will commence this weekend with a Community Festival in Micoud from Friday April 21st – Sunday 23rd. The 3-day event will encourage participation from communities in Micoud to showcase their creativity in all areas of visual, fine, literary and performing arts.
On Friday, April 28th, Poetry Night Live features Saint Lucian poet Kendell Hippolyte and will take place on Cadet Street in Castries under the theme, “Sounds of the Castries Underground”.
Communications officer at the CDF Jimmy Clavier informs that the free event commences at 7:00 p.m. and it is anticipated that Saint Lucians will come out in their numbers to experience dynamic portrayals and interpretations of poetry.
A vibrant group of young actors will on Saturday 29th and 30th April, stage Katherine Atkinson’s play “Requiem for a Bad John” at the National Cultural Centre from 7:00 p.m. on both days.
Plans are underway for an infusion of the artist market into the event. It was previously featured as one of the St Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival offerings. This year the National Arts Festival will run for two weeks.
